CA SHIPS CA-VISUAL OBJECTS 2.5, FEATURING TIGHTER
INTEGRATION WITH JASMINE

ISLANDIA, N.Y., June 29, 1999--Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced a new release of its CA-Visual Objects development tool that features tight integration with CA's Jasmine information infrastructure for building high-performance object-oriented business applications.

CA-Visual Objects release 2.5 offers complete client-side integration with Jasmine, providing native object support and the ability to use Jasmine data and logic in CA-Visual Objects applications. CA-Visual Objects applications can take advantage of Jasmine's ability to efficiently store complex data such as video, audio, animation and virtual reality to create high-performance visual applications.

Visual Objects release 2.5 also includes new class libraries that ease the development of Internet-based business solutions. Increased support for industry standards such as ODBC, OLE/COM and ActiveX enable CA-Visual Objects applications to take further advantage of the Internet and advanced Windows features. Transparent integration of Microsoft's Visual SourceSafe helps individuals and groups of developers manage application source code without leaving the CA-Visual Objects environment.

"The close integration of CA-Visual Objects and Jasmine gives us a straightforward means to realize the benefits of object orientation not only in program source code but also in the storage of data through persistent objects," said Paul Piko, director, Piko Computing Consultants, a leading Australia-based provider of database and application development expertise, consulting services and add-on products. "The new class libraries, providing Internet, OLE Server and ActiveX capabilities, enable us to select the most appropriate features that best suit our clients' needs. The improvements in the development environment make working in CA-Visual Objects release 2.5 easier and more productive, and the introduction of version control simplifies the management of large projects."

CA-Visual Objects (www.cai.com/products/visual_objects.htm) combines the benefits of object-oriented programming - such as inheritance, polymorphism and encapsulation - with robust visual design tools and automatic code generation. It includes an extensive array of class libraries that support GUI programming, database management, support for industry standards and integration of existing logic. The CA-Visual Objects Software Development Kit (SDK) contains full CA-Visual Objects source code for system class libraries and additional information on extending the CA-Visual Objects environment.

"CA Visual Objects 2.5 helps developers work more quickly and efficiently while producing more powerful and reliable solutions," said Ralf Saborowski, CA assistant vice president, research and development. "Integration with Jasmine extends CA-Visual Objects by providing mission-critical pure object management."

The suggested retail price for CA-Visual Objects 2.5 is $499. Upgrade pricing starts at $299. The suggested retail price for the SDK is $325. A free, downloadable trial version of CA-Visual Objects, with a 30-day license, is available at www.cai.com/products/visual_objects/trial.htm.

Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA), the world leader in mission-critical business computing, provides software, support and integration services in more than 100 countries around the world. CA has more than 14,000 employees and had revenue of $5.3 billion in fiscal year 1999.
